While commonly known for his lyrics about violence, money and women. 21 Savage’s ‘Nothin New’ off his debut album addresses the issues around growing up rough, involvement in gangs and police brutality.
The opening shots are interview clips from Colin Kaepernick, LeBron James and Barack Obama all speaking on police brutality and racism. Footage from the Ferguson and Baton Rouge protests also appears chopped up at the start. Leading into a sequence of events that shows a young black girl being led down the wrong path while her father sits in jail and hears the news. The video ends with the child robbing the store before being shot and killed by police. 21 Savage appears in the video in what appears to be him rapping at her funeral in the downpour.
