It’s no secret that Compton has been the hot bed of rap for the longest of times. In today’s scene Kendrick has certainly been holding it down for Compton, now he blesses fellow city man YG Hootie on this new one.
Produced by DJ Flu of Mike Will’s EarDrummers camp, ‘The City’ features just a single Kendrick verse but yet again does not disappoint. This is not the first time the two have teamed as they first linked up on ‘Two Presidents’, alluding to the Geroge W Bush Jr and Sr are both Compton natives. They carry the presidential theme on the track too with the cover art featuring George W Bush Jr. as a child in Compton in the style of Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. Kendrick and YG spit over a synthesizer bass beat about their unconditional support for city and the love they receive back.
