The success of ‘Slide’ with Frank Ocean, Quavo and Offset was the foundation of what would be Calvin Harris’ album roll out. Called the song of the (American) summer by many, Harris then treated us to the combinations we never knew we wanted until now.
‘Heatstroke’ (Young Thug, Pharrell & Ariana Grande) and ‘Rollin’ (Future & Khalid) accompany Slide as the standouts on the album however there are still some gems beneath these tracks. ‘Faking lt’ (Kehlani & Lil Yachty) and ‘Skrt on Me’ (Nicki Minaj) are personal standouts for myself, however probably the most intriguing combination on the album comes from ‘Holiday’. The Snoop Dogg, John Legend and Takeoff combination some how works, John Legend’s hook fits perfectly between Snoop Dogg and Takeoff (doitluhlikeiwaslefofffunkwavbouncesvol1?) verses.
Calvin Harris’ previous collaborations with Rihanna have found success when he’s dived into the hip-hop world. Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 shows Harris is more than capable of providing the hip-hop world with smooth collaborations with the genre’s finest.
